Train Driver Safety Quotient™ (DSQ™) is a personality and behavioral assessment designed for adults who drive as part of their occupation. The assessment helps identify patterns of behavior and can be used to implement solutions for maximizing individuals’ strengths and minimizing their safety risks while on the road or in the workplace. DSQ™ is used in a wide range of settings including business, education, training and coaching and it is intended for workers who drive trains as part of their occupation.

Employers use DSQ™ to help identify drivers and operators who are more likely to cause incidents and injuries and violate rules. The cost of owning a truck today means the wheels have to be kept turning to keep up with repayments and to fulfil contract arrangements. Employing a new driver can be very costly should you employ an unsuitable driver on your team. For existing employees, being aware of driver safety risk areas is important in mitigating the potential risks they can pose to themselves, others on the road, and the organization – it is your company name written on the Train after all.

Drivers and Operators with high Resistant scores received on average 4.6 times more incidents than those with low scores.
Drivers and Operators with high Irritable scores had an average incident rate 2.6 times higher than those with low scores.
Drivers and Operators with high Distractible scores had on average 139% more At-Fault Accidents than those with low scores.

Job Applicants: Gain insight into the type of driver/operator a candidate will be and the possible risks associated with hiring that person.

Why Safety Self-Awareness
The Safety Self-Awareness System™ improves safety outcomes through data-driven hiring, training and ongoing development. Grounded in Assessment-Based Learning, it uses personalized self-study and coaching to improve driving behavior.

Why Assessment-Based Learning?
It’s no secret that every employee is different. The best way to predict and improve their behaviors is by first understanding their personality through Assessment-Based Learning, a cost-effective and scalable program proven effective for individuals, small businesses, and Enterprise-level organizations.

Decades of research and experience with industrial and transportation industries have identified 6 personality traits that have been correlated with unsafe behaviors, incidents, injuries and violations. These traits are measured by DSQ™

Resistant vs. Accommodating
Anxious vs. Calm
Impatient vs. Patient
Distractible vs. Focused
Impulsive vs. Cautious
Thrill-Seeking vs. Apprehensive

The assessments can be taken on-line, via computer, tablet and mobile device, from anywhere with an internet connection (e.g., at home, at work, on client premises). The assessment takes approximately 15 minutes to complete but there is no time limit. There are no right or wrong answers, and there is no “pass” or “fail.” It’s all about understanding people better.

Once candidates have completed the assessment, 2 versions of the DSQ™ reports are generated: The Employer Report and the Participant Report. Reports can be email to specific parties within one hour of completion and can also be accessed by logging into our TalentClick assessment portal, using your own unique username and password. You will receive 2 standard versions of the DSQ™ report:

Employer Report: Provides descriptions of strengths, areas for coaching and development, job-fit considerations, and management tips for the participant.

Participant Report: Provides self-coaching and self-study strategies to build Safety Self-Awareness.

The assessment is available in multiple languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tagalog, and more currently in development.

DSQ™ validity was established through factor analysis and inter-scale correlations and meets the standard specified in the EEOC’s Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures (1978). DSQ™ validity has also been established through research we’ve conducted with client organizations where we correlate actual safety incidents on the job (injuries, first aid, equipment damage, near misses, etc.) for employees and their DSQ™ assessment results.

TalentClick conducts ongoing research and data analysis to ensure that its assessments are free of bias and adverse impact based on gender, race or ethnicity.
